Five Snapchat settings you should switch right now

There are a few joy Snapchat settings tweaks that can make the app work better for you. And even more fun-er-er.

From customizing emojis to providing yourself a Snapchat "bday party," our suggestions will see you making the most of the available functionality. Get in there!

1. Personalize friend emojis

You know that friend emojis switch over time based on how you interact with your Snapchat friends, but did you know you can customize them to showcase alternative emojis?

To begin switching your friend emojis, tap the ghost icon at the top of your screen. Now tap on the cog-shaped Settings icon to the top right.

Scroll down to the Extra Services section, then select Manage

Preferences. From here, choose Friend Emojis.

Tap on the emoji you want to customize, e.g., "Besties," then select which emoji you want to represent this friend category.

As you can see from our screengrab above, you can have some joy with this!

Two. Save to Camera Roll instead of Memories

Snapchat’s Memories rollout means the current default is to save Snaps and Stories to your Memories, not your Camera Roll as per the old days.

You can lightly override this tho’ with a quick dive into your settings. Again, tap the ghost icon on your screen and go into Settings via the cog-shaped icon to the top right. Tap the Memories option.

Hit up the Save To. section at the bottom and you can now elect to save content to Memories, Memories & Camera Roll or Camera Roll Only.

Three. Switch a friend’s Snapchat name

You can switch how your friend’s Snapchat username emerges to you. This is useful if either a acquaintance has a stooopid screen name you can never reminisce, or as a way to save time if they aren’t in your "Best Friends" to make them demonstrate up further up Snapchat’s alphabetical friends list.

To switch a name, simply head to your friends list. Tap on the ghost icon at the top of your screen, then select My Friends.

Tap on the friend who’s name you want to switch and in the pop-up box that emerges, tap the larger screen name (i.e., not the username). This will bring up another box that gives you the option to switch it.

Alternatively, you can tap the cog-shaped icon that shows up top right of the pop up box and select Edit Name. Same result. Don’t leave behind to hit Save.

Four. Link your Bitmoji to Snapchat

You can link your Bitmoji account to use personalized Bitmoji graphics in your Snapchat content. It’s well worth doing, but do note you need at least iOS nine or Android Four.1 for it to work.

Ensure you’re logged into your Bitmoji app and open Snapchat. Tap the ghost icon at the top, hit up the cog-shaped icon to access your Settings, go to the Bitmoji option, then Link Bitmoji.

Go after the permissions prompts that emerge and you’ll see a confirmation screen.

Now, with your accounts linked up, you can place Bitmoji graphics on Snaps and send them in talks. If your pals are also Bitmojied up, you can share Friendmoji stickers too.

Five. Enable your Snapchat ‘Bday Party’

You can give yourself a Snapchat-themed bday celebration with a feature hidden in your Settings menu.

Head to Settings via the ghost and cog icons, then tap on Bday under My Account. Here, you can toggle on the option to enable your individual Bday Party.

As well as give you a bday cake icon next to your name on your special date this will also give you some "other joy surprises" on the big day itself.
